beliefs are not worth much unless they are translated
into actions

Based on what the Bible teaches, we value the following practices:

The Bible

“The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration from God and is useful to teach us what is true and make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us to do what is right.”  - 2 Timothy 3:15

Since God’s Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living. Our first question when faced with a decision is “What does the Bible say?” We practice daily Bible reading, Bible study, and Bible memorization. The Bible is the basis for all we believe.

Christlike Character

“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:” - Philippians 2:5 (NIV)

As followers of Jesus Christ, we value the kind of Christlike character that results in a spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

"And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."  - 2 Tim 2:2 (NIV)

As followers of Jesus Christ, we value attitudes and practices that lead to the multiplication of disciples.  The Christian faith is not a body of information to be absorbed and hoarded for personal gain; rather, it is a life that is to be received and immediately passed on to others.

"Among the prophets and teachers of the church at Antioch of Syria were Barnabas, Simeon (called "the black man"), Lucius (from Cyrene), Manaen (the childhood companion of King Herod Antipas), and Saul." - Acts 13:1-2

"You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation."  - Revelations 5:9

At FMBC, we value a polyethnic church experience. Polyethnic is different from multiethnic, in that we do not try to force a blending of the various cultures that make up our community.   We affirm the diversity of cultures living in Lake Highlands, learn from each one and put our knowledge to good use, making disciples of every tribe and tongue and nation we encounter.  Where needed, we also start culture-specific churches so that people can hear the gospel in their heart language.

The Great Commission

"Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." - Acts 1:8 (NIV)

"Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."  - John 20:21 (NIV)

“Christ is the head of His Body, the church. He is the source of the Body’s life...” - Colossians 1:18 (NIV)

Christ is the recognized head of our church, not any person, group, or religious organization. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, we believe every local church should be self-governing and independent from any denominational control. In relating to the new churches that we sponsor, we encourage each congregation to determine it’s own strategy, structure, and style.

Priesthood of Every Believer

“.. and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father-to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen." - Revelation 1:6 (NIV)

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."  - 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)

The Bible teaches that every Christian is called to “full time” Christian service, regardless of his or her vocation. We practice the truth that every believer is a minister by encouraging every member to find a place of service and ministry. Every believer has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading.

Tithing and Grace Giving

“A tithe of everything you produce belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” - Leviticus 26:30 (NIV)

“But just as you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us-see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” - 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)

At Forest Meadow we practice tithing and grace giving for the support of Christ’s body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the Biblical starting point for giving to the Lord’s work. As God enables each of us to prosper, we give beyond the tithe.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” - Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

As God created mankind in His image, so did He bless us with the ability to be creative ourselves. At Forest Meadow, we approach all that we do with a spirit of creativity. We believe that the arts and creativity should be reclaimed by the Church.

Spirit-led Living

(Jesus said), “I am the Vine, you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; but apart from me you can do nothing.” - John 15:5 (NIV)

We believe the only way possible to live the Christian life is by God’s power within us.  So we seek to practice a daily dependence on God’s Spirit to enable us to do what is right.

Telling Others About Christ

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” - 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)

It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the Good News with those with whom God brings us into contact. We practice personal sharing about Christ and inviting friends to church.
